Dottie Harrison

This area is so beautiful that it attracts many artists to live and work here.  I am continually surprised

and impressed by the quality and quantity of art produced locally.

While I was born in Rochester (many years ago) I spent summers on a farm in Bristol. Later, my family moved to Hemlock and I went to school in Livonia. After high school I attended collage in Buffalo and took drawing and perspective classes at the Albright Knox Art Gallery. After getting married and having children, I started a home based candle business. I designed brochures and catalogs for the wholesale part of the business and did displays in the retail shop along with coming up with a few new coloring techniques for candles.

After retirement, I started to paint with watercolors, experimented with acrylics, and then with oils.  I now paint almost exclusively with oils: sometimes I use brushes, sometimes painting knives and often with a combination of brushes and painting knives.

Many of my paintings are scenes of the Finger Lakes area. I’ve done lots of barns because I love the character of them.  I’d really love to hear the stories they could tell if they could talk.  I do paint other subjects though.  Animals, flowers and yes, people. I  take on commissions occasionally, though most of my paintings are of subjects, scenes that just appeal to me.

My work may be seen at:

All Things Art, Canandaigua, New York

Artizann’s in Naples , New York

The Frame Shop and Gallery, Canandaigua, New York
